Where you will be working
Newmont’s Cadia Valley mine operation is situated in New South Wales, 25 kilometres from Orange and 250 kilometres west of Sydney. Cadia produces gold doré bars from a gravity circuit and gold-rich copper concentrates from a flotation circuit. The Operation includes the Cadia East Mine which is globally renowned for its use of block caving, a large-scale underground mining method.

Who we’re looking forÌýÌý
Reporting to the Team Lead, Water and Sustainability, the position of Advisor, Environment will provide support in the oversight and execution of environmental management obligations in relation to the water, waste and sustainability reporting functions, however general support across the environment disciplines will be required.
Other key responsibilities will be (but not limited) to:
- Review and track implementation of site-level environmental water obligations, including field inspections, ensuring accurate data collection and adherence to established protocolsÌý
- Review and track implementation of site-level waste management obligations, completing regular site inspections and escalating non-conformances to relevant area ownersÌý
- Coordinate and schedule routine field work conducted by environmental contractors in the water spaceÌý
- Track and contribute to progress toward regulatory commitments, targets and other performance metrics, including sustainability best-practice assessments
- Support in the preparation and submission of environmental compliance reports, ensuring all regulatory requirements and deadlines are met
- Collaborate in cross-functional team meetings to discuss and solve environmental concerns with respect to water management, waste awareness and reporting, contributing to the implementation of sustainable operational practices
- Support periodic communication from the site teams to the business unit regarding environmental performance, risk and events
- Support compliance audits, event reporting and investigations, especially in water and waste fields
- Support data compilation and review for site projects and studies, annual reporting and site level regulatory reporting as needed
- Provide guidance and contribute to improvement projects in water and sustainability areas and develop means to track progress
To be considered suitable you will have:
- Bachelor level qualifications in Environmental Science/Management or similar
- Knowledge of legislation and standards in regulatory frameworks including the permitting, monitoring and management of performance for safety, environment and social performance
- Demonstrated experience in mining and/or mineral processing operations including in environmental risk management system functions
- Understanding of environmental laws and regulations and understanding of international practices relevant to mining operations, exploration, environmental risk management, compliance and permitting
- Experience in managing internal and external teams specifically with project management fundamentals
- Confident external engagement skills – i.e. communities, external bodies, regulatory authorities etc.
Based at the Cadia Valley Mine Operation and offered on a drive-in, drive-out basis on a 5/3, 4/3 roster (10-hour workdays) this position will suit applicants currently living in Orange, or near surrounds in regional New South Wales. Ìý
Full and unrestricted eligibility to work in Australia will be essential.
