Semafo confirmed on Thursday that operations at the聽Boungou聽mine聽have been suspended following Wednesday鈥檚聽attack on the public road between聽Fada聽and the聽Boungou聽Mine site in the Eastern聽region of Burkina Faso聽that left 37 dead and聽60 wounded.聽
Geodrill聽Limited said two of its employees were killed in the聽ambush, and dozens of people were feared still missing on Thursday, Reuters reported.听听
The incident happened approximately 40 kilometers from the聽Boungou聽Mine. The convoy, escorted by military personnel, comprised five buses transporting聽national employees, contractors and suppliers, .听听
Sermafo聽is a Canadian-based gold producer with two mines, Mana and聽Boungou聽in Burkina Faso. It also has three projects in the exploration phase:聽Bantou,聽Nabanga聽and Korhogo.听听聽
The company said the聽Boungou聽mine site remains secure, but聽operations聽have been suspended聽out of respect to the victims and those impacted.听听
