I have to agree with Allan. Irrespective of the bull/bear market link, the use of a photo of bear skin rugs to emphasise the “massacre” is utterly distasteful. The article and website is let down by such a shameful error of judgement.

Bulls and bears are commonly used to refer to market movements and the image is not a comment on the gold industry as a whole or its corporate social responsibility and sustainability initiatives, which are not discussed in the piece at all – Frik

Regarding “Monday mining massacre as gold, copper, iron ore prices tank”
I find your image of bear skin rugs on sale at Ismaylovo market, Moscow, highly inappropriate, completely unnecessary and totally unrelated to a brief gold price correction. The use of the word “massacre” and an inappropriate image to promote the term over sensationalizes a slight, shorth term correction in gold price (up 24% this year). In an industry working very hard by engaging in corporate social responsibility initiatives, including voluntary activities undertaken by a company to operate in an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable manner, this image should not be used to promote a news article.

In my opinion, an apology should be issued for the use of this image.
