According to a study published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters, it is explosions of highly magnetized neutron stars, or magnetars, that caused gold and other heavy metals to form in space.
The contract to build a 1.2 gigawatt plant with investments estimated at 6.5-7 billion euros was signed in 2013, but the Finnish side terminated it in May 2022.
