Job Description
This is a
Fixed Term Contract appointment under Capital Development Services.
The focus for this role will be to:
- Ensure proper handover and communication with alternate shift.
- Ensure good blasting and explosives management i.e adherence to controls for explosives, boxes, centralized blasting NSS box etc., and order explosives when necessary.
- Collect and test Lamp, GDI (Gas detecting instrument) and proceed underground and check material / cars and services, report on any GDI triggers or exceptions at end of shift.
- Adherence to waiting place procedures - Check PPE / injuries of workers, collect clock cards and mark gang make up, conduct meeting (Safety / production / briefs / labour / leave), confirm daily tasks / plan (ensure material / equipment available) and check material in store, notice board up to date, all explosive boxes locked/clean, Refuge bay and First Aid Box inspections; and Test for gasses and ensure ventilation as per standard procedure (velocity/ W/B,D/B). and do Fire Drill at Refuge Bay.
- Over inspect completion of Pre-start/ Pre-use Risk assessments and SLAM by team members
- Temporary & Permanent Support Installation – Adherence to Mine Standard and Geotechnical recommendations. (Check spacing/distance from face, 90° installation to H/W, Installation on solid F/W, release handle installation as per Mine standards, releasing tool available on last Camlok and Camlok condition (locking pin/headboard/footplate and check support line (elongate/roof bolts), spacing (dip/strike) of elongates and roof bolts, correct installation angle (90° to H/W), correct length cut of elongates, nozzle of jackpot facing back area and Installed on solid/clean F/W).
- Face preparation and marking off – Wash, inspect all sockets and treat misfired shots. (Shot holes to be marked off by holder of valid blasting certificate only, Holes to be marked at correct burden, direction lines (90° to face), all paint lines (highway lines/ref, lines/perimeter, lines/support/roof bolt/), rig holes (top/bottom) and Shot holes not close than 150mm from sockets and ensure safety nets are the correct size, not damaged, correctly tightened, correct overlap, installed full width of ASG/panel/ end with C/S hooks to hook the safety net).
- Drilling of shotholes - Adherence to safe drilling practices i.e Declare face safe prior to drilling, No drilling if nets not installed Check drilling on mark/direction, drilling on correct dip (not damaging H/W or F/W), drilling full length of jumper, continuously barring during drilling and water pump working during drilling.
- Charging up – Adherence to safe charging procedures, Quality barring prior to charging up, test for gasses, De-sludge all shot holes properly, use of correct charging equipment and load correct quantity of explosives
- Timing/Blasting - Connect fuses in correct sequence as per Mine Standards, test slave station, test blasting wires, connect blasting wires to Safe Start, lock away all excessive explosives not used and ensure all workers out of place of work. Ensure all barricades to panel/end closed as per Mine Standards, adherence to blasting schedule and time
- Monitor Quality Control - Measuring end/face advance daily (3 points i.e top + bottom + ASG). Plot advance daily on plan and measure sweepings from face, all support from face, all other services daily (A+W/pillar/ventilation controls/mono winch/face winch) and Best cut (daily).
- Conduct detailed shift reporting on Injuries, Incidents, breakdown or status of equipment, hazards not remediated, material consumption or shortages.
- Implementation of best/ leading mining practices within working area.
This role is in the Mining department at a C2 level reporting to the Shift Supervisor Mining.
Qualifications
You will be required to have:
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Medically and physically fit
- Blasting certificate / Rock Breaking Certificate is required.
- Passed Developer specific training modules
- Passed area specific training modules for Developer
- Passed basic developing equipment maintenance modules
Knowledge, skills and experience required:
- 3 years relevant experience as a Developer or equivalent.
- Knowledge of the following Legal Requirements will be advantageous: MHSA Chapter 14 (Protection in workings), Minerals Act Chapter 8 (Responsibility in workings), MHSA Chapter 9 (Occupational Hygiene), MHSA Chapter 22 (Schedules) and MHSA Chapter 23 (Reporting of accidents).
