Metso Outotec gears up sustainability focus with CEEC sponsorship

Global processing technology and service provider Metso Outotec is the latest company to join the Coalition for Eco Efficient Comminution (CEEC) as a new sponsor, growing the global network of mining industry leaders to accelerate collaboration and uptake of more eco-efficient mining and comminution.
鈥淢etso Outotec brings strong alignment and skills to support CEEC鈥檚 mission,鈥 said CEEC CEO Alison Keogh in a media release. 鈥淢etso Outotec has a global reach, and has been championing sustainability for a long time by proactively developing technologies and partnering with mining companies to become more energy efficient.鈥
Metso Outotec President and CEO Pekka Vauramo said that sustainability is at the core of Metso Outotec鈥檚 operations, which aligns with CEEC鈥檚 objective to promote eco-efficient minerals.
鈥淲e are excited to be part of CEEC, as it fits very well with our purpose to enable sustainable modern life,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e are committed to limiting global warming to 1.5掳C and accelerating our sustainability efforts as the most recent IPCC report makes it clear that the window of opportunity for keeping to 1.5掳C is closing quickly,” Vauramo said. “We want to support our customers in reducing their emissions with our sustainable offering that utilizes the most efficient technologies.鈥
Metso Outotec Head of Grinding Business Line Christoph Hoetzel said that as comminution is the most energy-intensive step in mining, improving how we grind and process rocks now and in the future is key to reducing industry鈥檚 carbon emissions.
鈥淚 encourage three collaboration actions through CEEC to accelerate our collective efforts for more energy and water efficient minerals: Sharing case studies and knowledge, benchmarking and innovation. Our combined learnings and operational successes can all help industry truly improve and accelerate the decarbonization change,鈥 he said.
鈥淰isionary leaders are actively pushing towards what can be done better. Metso Outotec is keen to help communicate the business case for alternative grinding circuits and processing flowsheets. Our range of proven energy efficient solutions 鈥 which is the widest in the industry – allows a truly holistic approach considering efficiency, reliability and low operational costs. Such holistic approaches with innovative plant design and optimization are vital to reduce mining鈥檚 footprint.鈥
In 2012, staff from Metso and Compan虄i虂a Minera Antamina co-authored the paper 鈥極ptimisation and continuous improvement of the Antamina Comminution Circuit鈥, which won the inaugural 2012 CEEC Medal. In addition, Metso Outotec is the 8th most sustainable company in the world according to Corporate Knights.
