Engie to build wind farm to supply Anglo American鈥檚 Quellaveco project in Peru

Engie Energ铆a Per煤, a subsidiary of France鈥檚 Engie, is ready to start working on the development of the $300 million, 260MW Punta Lomitas wind project in south-central Peru.
The energy company recently with Siemens GESA Renewable Energy and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy related to the supply of wind turbines. Construction is expected to begin in the second half of 2021.
Punta Lomitas is a wind park with a nominal capacity of 260 MW. It is located in the Ocucaje-Ica region and includes a 220kV, 60-kilometre long transmission line that will connect to Peru鈥檚 Interconnected National Electric System.
The facility is also expected to provide 150 MW for an initial eight-year period to Anglo American Quellaveco鈥檚 copper project located in the Moquegua region.
Quellaveco is considered one of the world鈥檚 largest undeveloped copper deposits with ore reserves totalling 1.3 billion tonnes at an average grade of 0.57% tcu.
